LA, London, New York
What a great way to kick start June by flying back out to LA to do the lovely Marisa Tomei’s hair for the LA premier of her latest movie Cyrus. It’s been a while since I’ve had my hands on Marisa’s beautiful tresses and I have to say she really has wonderful hair that’s always a pleasure to work with (and of course so is she!)
Back to London and headed straight off to Jade Jagger’s boutique where she unveiled her exciting new collection.
No sooner in London I found myself hoping back on a plane back to New York a few days ahead of schedule to prepare the gorgeous Patricia Velasquez for her Gala Event for the Wayuu Taya Foundation for which she is the Founder and I sit on the committee www.wayuutaya.net. It is a remarkable organisation set up to help improve the lives of Latin-American indigenous communities while maintaining and respecting their traditions, culture and beliefs.
Then on to my main press event and enjoyed a great and jam packed press day at The Ace Hotel in New York. It was attended by the likes of Vanity Fair and People Magazine to name a few and they had come to learn more about my products. Sometimes I think actions speak louder than words so I put my products into action I gave them all a special little TS pampering by washing their hair in my shampoos and finished off by giving them my magic TS touch with the hairdryer and brush! It was pretty exhausting to say the least but such a pleasure to receive some wonderful feedback from them as they left with a smile on their face and their lovely heads of hair held high…in true Tara Smith style!
Then it was off to the Rockefeller Centre to make an in-store appearance at the new Duane Reed store there. Visit this one if you get the chance to go… not just for my product of course, but it is THE make-up & beauty counter in NYC. It’s stunning. It’s also so great to know that Tara Smith is now available 24 hours a day in New York now!
Back to UK and more work on my new product development, this is getting pretty exciting.
Then it’s off to the Clothes Show where I was invited back as Reigning Champion and also I was nominated again for 2010. I didn’t win this year but thanks to all of you who voted for me. It really makes a difference to me. What was great about being at the Clothes Show this time was that I got to set my creative juices free? To me, this is what hairdressing is all about…breaking the mould, reinventing yourself, trying new things. It’s an art; it’s a craft and I get such a buzz out of styling people who allow me creative freedom on their hair. And, it was even more rewarding when everyone was really delighted with their new look, hence my free time in my London studio is now booked solid!
My June Top Style Tip: When conditioning curly hair always comb the conditioner through a wide tooth comb ends to roots…
My Product of the Month: is an 18ct gold necklace made by ‘Bert’. It has a teeny tiny golden trumpet on it that actually works when you blow it. My dear friend Natalie Imbruglia gave this to me as a gift after I had run both the LA marathon and the London marathon is the space of 6 weeks!..She claimed I had officially earned the right to ‘blow my own trumpet’!
